A 15-Year-Old Was Shot Dead on a Basketball Court While Bystanders Filmed

On a Thursday evening, 15-year-old Jaden Pierre made his way to Roy Wilkins Park basketball court in Queens, NYC — a familiar public space where local teens regularly gathered to play. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

At 6:15 p.m., a group of teens surrounded Pierre. Videos show him being repeatedly punched as the crowd closed in. Seconds later, a single gunshot struck him directly in the chest — the group instantly scattered and fled.

As Pierre collapsed on the court, the crowd did not call for help or intervene. Instead, they raised their phones and recorded every brutal second — witnesses later described the scene as chillingly indifferent, more spectacle than emergency.

Pierre was rushed to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition. Despite emergency medical efforts, the 15-year-old did not survive. His death added another devastating chapter to New York City’s deepening crisis with youth gun violence.

By Saturday, the NYPD had made zero arrests. Investigators released photos of a suspect wanted in connection with the shooting, urging the public to contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS with any available information.

NY Attorney General Letitia James called it a senseless act of gun violence. Pastor Cory Brooks condemned the filming crowd harshly — warning the video exposed a morally darkened generation: “children devouring children” in a space built for laughter.
