A 16-Year-Old Killed His Own Stepsister on a Carnival Cruise Ship

Anna Kepner, 18, a high school cheerleader from Titusville, Florida, boarded the Carnival Horizon cruise ship in November 2024 with her family — including her 16-year-old stepbrother, Timothy Hudson.

Before the ship returned to Florida, Anna’s body was discovered hidden under a bed — in the very room she shared with Hudson and another teen. No alarm had been raised before the discovery.

A medical examination confirmed the cause of death as mechanical asphyxia on November 6 — meaning physical force had deliberately stopped Anna from breathing during the voyage.

Hudson was initially charged as a juvenile, but the case was escalated — rare for minors — to adult federal court. He now faces first-degree murder and aggravated sexual abuse charges.

This week, U.S. District Judge Beth Bloom ordered the trial to begin June 1 in Miami. Hudson entered a written not guilty plea — making this a federal murder trial for a minor.

Anna’s father, Christopher Kepner, released a statement placing full trust in the justice system. At her November memorial, loved ones wore bright colors — honoring what family called her bright, beautiful soul.
