Army Paratroopers Rushed to Middle East as U.S. Prepares Dangerous Next Move Against Iran

Earlier this month, President Trump approved a sustained bombing campaign against Iran. The 82nd Airborne headquarters abruptly pulled out of a training exercise at Fort Polk, Louisiana — sparking weeks of war speculation.

Trump ordered bombing of military targets on Kharg Island — Iranian territory in the Persian Gulf — but intentionally left oil infrastructure intact. U.S. forces spotted signs Iran might soon reinforce the island’s defenses.

Last week, the Pentagon made plans to send 82nd Airborne soldiers to key areas in Iran. But it remained unclear whether the administration would approve deployment to the region — or directly onto Iranian soil.

On Tuesday, the Pentagon issued written orders deploying roughly 2,000 paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne’s 1st Brigade Combat Team at Fort Bragg — including the elite Immediate Response Force, trained to deploy within 18 hours.

Simultaneously, 3 warships carrying about 4,500 troops — including the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit from Okinawa, Japan — neared the Middle East. The 11th MEU also deployed early from San Diego as reinforcements.

The administration now weighs seizing Kharg Island, source of 90% of Iran’s oil exports. Officials warn troops could face relentless drone and missile barrages. Trump still won’t rule out putting U.S. forces on Iranian soil.
