Trump Says ‘Send Them Back’ After Clash With Muslim Lawmakers

During his State of the Union on Tuesday, President Trump promoted a strict immigration crackdown. He accused Somali communities of fraud, claimed “Somali pirates” hurt Minnesota, and used this to justify sending armed federal immigration agents there.

Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar stood up and shouted, “You’re killing Americans!” at Trump during his speech. Omar also called him a “liar” as both openly confronted the president from the chamber floor.

On Wednesday, Trump posted on Truth Social, calling the lawmakers “LUNATICS” and “mentally deranged.” He said they should be sent back “as fast as possible.” Both women are U.S. citizens.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called Trump’s remarks “xenophobic” and “disgraceful.” Tlaib said on X he was “crashing out.” CAIR said telling two Muslim U.S. lawmakers to “send back” was racist and bigoted.

Edward Ahmed Mitchell of CAIR said it is racist to tell two Muslim U.S. lawmakers to return to their birth countries because they criticized ICE actions. Rights groups warned Trump used isolated fraud cases to target immigrants.

Critics said Trump’s attack followed a broader pattern. He recently shared a racist video about the Obamas, then removed it without apology. They also accused him of selective enforcement after pardoning some fraud convicts.
